Over 2.4 million adults in England alone can't read or struggle to. If you're based in the North & West Wiltshire area and have some time to volunteer, you could make a real difference to the lives of local adults who want to learn to read by joining the team of volunteers who run our Read Easy North & West Wiltshire group. You would be part of a group of like-minded volunteers focused on offering adults in your area the life-changing opportunity to learn to read.

Read Easy North & West Wiltshire want to help more adults in the area learn to read, and to achieve this we need the support of Literacy Specialists to guide and train our volunteer reading coaches, support problem-solving with their readers and help to plan reader transitions as they start and then approach the end of the programme enabling all our readers to receive the support and resources they need to succeed.

We already have one Literary Specialist, but in order for us to meet growing demand, we need at least one more person with the expertise to be the wind beneath the wings of our coaches.

The role of Literacy Specialist requires the following skills:

● A background in teaching reading/literacy (preferably, but not necessarily, with adults).
● An understanding of the difference between the needs of adults and children in the learning process.
● A knowledge of the range of teaching resources that are available for adults, or a
willingness to research them.

● Reasonable confidence in using IT
● The ability to collaborate with other Literacy Specialists, use initiative and work independently
● A willingness to abide by Read easy policies and procedures
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team
● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included
● Energy and enthusiasm with an average of one day a week to commit to the role, ideally some during the day.
